About

Wet Nose Pottery was founded in 2022 by Ashley Chen Birmingham, a Taiwanese-American potter creating work in San Diego, California. Ashley graduated from University of California, San Diego in 2012 with a major in biochemistry, and her travels for research and pleasure continue to inspire her pieces today.

Ashley has always been an avid musician and painter, and is keen on learning new creative mediums. Though she had taken a ceramics class in college, it wasn’t until 2021 that she discovered that clay was her language for creative expression. Most of her pieces are created either at a local studio or at home. She loves to tease out an idea or form from a ball of clay, and wheel throwing is her form of meditation.

Ashley works as a healthcare specialist when she isn’t working with clay, and she enjoys time in the ocean or hiking in the mountains with her husband and rescue dog, Captain.

Wet Nose Pottery is based on the ancestral and traditional territories of the Kumeyaay, who are the original owners and custodians of the land on which we stand and create.
